"No Oldsmobiles qualified, while virtually every AMC from the Seventies did. A surprising number of coupes and wagons made the grade. As time goes on, some of these vehicles may become more valuable and price themselves off our list; we're a little surprised some of them already haven't. As power and shipping weights rise later in the 1980s, and as the calendar continues its inexorable march forward, there could be a whole new cluster of cars to be considered. Will it get tougher to compile a dollar-a-pound list as time goes on? It's impossible to tell.

For now, though, there are still bargains to be had. Get 'em while they still exist."
